Frequently Asked Questions

Between potential cheerleaders, internet fans, and the occasional interested local person at the store, I get asked a lot of questions! Below I have listed out the answers to some of the most common. Feel free to ask any questions you don't see below and I will be happy to answer for you! - Coach Amie

Tryout Related Questions:

  1. How many teams will there be next year? - Next year (2013 - 2014) we will have two teams. Blue team cheers football and competes. Gold  team cheers basketball.
  2. I'm going to tryout, how should I prepare?- Great! Start NOW! Join a gym and start taking tumbling and basic cheer lessons. Stretch at home. Make friends with a current cheerleader and ask if they can help show you some drills to make your jumps and motions better. Learn dances from youtube. Anything you do that gets you practicing will help you with tryouts! Don't wait until the week of to start!
  3. Do I have to be able to tumble to make it?- You do not need to have any tumbling to make JV. However this year we are requiring a standing back handspring to be on varsity.
  4. How many girls will make each team? - We will determine that the week of tryouts. Our rough estimate is 30 - 40 will make the program. Team breakdown will depend on tumbling and spots we need to fill to form a team.
  5. Can 6th graders tryout? - Yes. Anyone currently in grades 5 – 7 can tryout for the next school year.
  6. Do you have to be a certain size to cheer? - No! It takes all shapes and sizes to make a great cheer team. You do not have to be a certain height or weight.
  7. I don’t know how to do the jumps we have to know. - That’s ok. We teach you everything you need to know at clinic. I would recommend looking up videos on youtube. There are plenty of how to do a toetouch, etc videos that can help you prepare in advance.
  8. Do old girls automatically make it back?- NO!! Girls who have been on the team before have to re-tryout just like new girls. No special privileges are given to them at all. We want the best team possible so it doesn’t matter to us if you’ve been on our team 2 years or never cheered before, whoever is the best fit will make the team.
  9. I can tumble. Do I automatically make the team? - No! We've cut many girls in the past that can tumble. While its important, there are many other factors. Keep in mind that grades, behavior, motions, dance, etc all count just as much!
  10. Why didn’t I make the team? - Unfortunately not everyone can make it – this just isn’t possible. Its not fun for us coaches but we have to cut people and we’re usually just as sad as you are. We are willing to give you pointers and things to work on over the year in case you want to try out again!
  11. I didn’t make the team. Now what? - If cheering is something you love and want to do then join a gym. The gym we train at has a lot of great cheer teams for all ages and experience levels. The best thing you can do is take classes or join a team and come back next year better than before! You won’t get any better not doing anything for a year.
